Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max has secured its position as the world’s best-selling smartphone for the first half of 2024, continuing the trend set by its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which topped the charts in the same period of 2023.
Apple Dominates Top Spots
The standard iPhone 15 followed closely behind in second place, shipping 17.8 million units. The iPhone 15 Pro claimed the fourth spot with 16.9 million shipments. However, the iPhone 15 Plus lagged significantly, managing only 3.7 million shipments and ranking 28th globally.
With the upcoming release of the iPhone 16 series on September 20, industry experts anticipate the Pro Max model will maintain its leadership. Notably, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models are set to receive substantial upgrades, including the latest A18 chipset, enabling them to support Apple’s forthcoming AI features.
Samsung’s Strong Performance
Samsung’s Galaxy A15 secured the third position with 17.3 million shipments, significantly outperforming its predecessor. The 5G variant of this model ranked seventh with 12.2 million units sold. The Samsung S24 Ultra, launched on January 31, claimed the fifth spot with 12.6 million shipments, surpassing its predecessor’s performance. The success of the S24 series is largely attributed to the introduction of Galaxy AI features.
Surprising Longevity
Interestingly, the three-year-old iPhone 13 remains popular, ranking sixth with 12.5 million shipments. It even outperformed the newer iPhone 14, which shipped 11.1 million units and ranked ninth. This continues a trend seen with the iPhone 11, which remained in the top 10 globally until this year, despite its 2019 launch date.
Budget-Friendly Options
Rounding out the top 10 are two ultra-affordable models: the Xiaomi 13C and Samsung Galaxy A05, ranking eighth and tenth respectively. Both devices offer similar specifications, including 4G connectivity, entry-level RAM, comparable camera setups, and large batteries, catering to the budget-conscious market segment.
